The 2023 paddlesport training sessions for Scouts and Explorers are planned for:
- Sat 11-Feb-23
- Sat 11-Mar-23
- Sat 15-Apr-23
- Sat 13-May-23
- For those new to paddling these sessions will get you on the water safely and develop your paddling skills and experience in different craft
- For the more experienced paddlers, you should progress through awards and also work toward your personal paddling permit.
We will be using Leybourne Lake for these sessions and the cost is £10 for lake access fee.

Ø Choose date & book session - go to bottom of page - you can Skip Login process but will need to enter:
· Your Name*

· BC Members number - ignore this unless you are a British Canoeing member
· Attendees Name* - this is to confirm who is actually paddling
· Group / Section* - i.e.: 5th Northfleet / Scouts
· Leaders Name – your Scout/Explorer Leader’s name
· Click to confirm booking policy and then Book
Once completed you should get an automated email acknowledgment
Prior to your booked session, you will receive a Participation Agreement that needs to be signed and returned.

Will it be cold?
Probably – check weather forecast and remember ‘Be Prepared’
Will I get wet?
Possibly – the aim is to provide training to build confidence and knowledge in paddlesport
What should I wear?
On the water - Wet suit if you have one or suitable clothing (NO JEANS) that can get
wet but will keep you warm ie: fleece top
- You will also need footwear (old trainers) that will get wet.
- Windproof jacket /cag is always a good idea
- You will be provided with a Buoyancy aid and helmet together with any
other safety kit required.
Off the water - Warm dry clothing to change into at end of session
How long is session?
Arrive at 10:00am and finish around 14:00. We will have a break mid-day so bring
packed lunch.
Is lunch included?
No, you will need to bring a pack lunch and hot drink. There is a café on site for light snacks
and refreshments
How much will session cost?
Access fee for the lake is £10 per boat

Do I need any previous paddling experience?
No. This is an intro session for leaders to cover the basics of paddling
Do I need to be able to swim?
Yes. This is a water-based activity, and you are required to wear a buoyancy aid for the
duration of the activity.
You will also need to complete Participation Agreement in advance to confirm you can swim.
How far do I need to swim?
This is not a swimming activity and in reality, only need to be able to swim 10m.
