Gravesham scouts prides ourselves on the level of our water events each year and the level of fun they provide to our young people. This year on the 30th and 31st of march we will be running Kontiki and Cubs on water respectively at Leybourne Lakes country park in snodland. These events are open to everyone in Gravesham Explorers, Scouts and Cubs no matter the skill level. It gets them on the water in multitude of craft and learn some new skills and have lots of fun with their friends.
Kontiki
Kontiki is a chance for all of Gravesham’s Scouts and explorers to get on the water and have loads of fun. The day gives them time where they can go out in canoes, kayaks, Stand up paddle boards, bellboats and rafts. A key part of this event is the traditional raft building competition, judging and races where the scouts and explorers will build rafts out of pioneering supplies in a set time frame, they will then be judged and then raced across the lake. We also are pushing the novelty raft this year with the event having a medieval theme this year, we would love as many groups to do this as possible with it being open to both age ranges. This consists of rafts that can be built off site and are judged on looks and ability. We will also be bringing back the bellboy races this year and are asking groups to put teams together before the event but it’s not essential. If you want to join in any of these races speak to your leaders.
Cubs on water
Cubs on water is a great event for cubs to get out on the water and have fun with their friends. The day is split into two sessions with groups being assigned onto one of them. During there session cubs will be able to go onto the water in kayaks, canoes, SUP’s, Bellboys and more. Under the supervision of our safety team they can try new things and learn new skills. It also gives them a taste for hobbies they might want to carry on when they enter scouts and upwards.
