News from the archives

The District Executive Committee has agreed a revision to the scale of fees for the use of facilities for the coming season. Scouters are to note that the revised charges for District Groups are as follows:

  • Camping on the field 6p per night
  • Inside accommodation 9p per night
  • Use of Barnes and Lions Huts £1.50
  • Day use of field and facilities 3p

Leaders don’t get too excited as this was from the District Bulletin from March 1975 which was found in the archives at Hopehill. The Barnes and Lions Huts were the original buildings demolished when the Clifford Allen Centre was built but the names were retained as the two wings of the building.

The two photos show the parade of Scouts at Windsor Castle for the presentation of Chief Scout Awards. Like a lot of the material in our archives we have no date or names associated. Can anyone give a clue as who, group or date?

I am always on the lookout for any memorabilia or documents relating to any of our District groups to add to the files kept at Hopehill. If you do have anything just drop it off at Hopehill, I’m always there on Wednesdays 10.00 to 13.00 hours
