We are back (at at least we were a couple of weeks ago)! After two years out due to Covid, our Easter Hillcraft event in the heart of the Lake District returned this Easter and with glorious sunshine too! 78 adults and young people made the journey to Rydal Hall for the 53rd Hillcraft.
Breaking into a number of walking parties the young people gain the experience of walking in many different terrains at a variety of levels of difficulties with the support of our experience team of leaders.
Throughout the week, teams undertook micro-navigation on Loughrigg, scrambing at Goats Water and on Sharp Edge, overnighters at Easdale Tarn and various other locations in the hills, plus many more adventures along the way!
The evenings were a chance to chill with friends, with the young people being self-sufficient, having done their own food shopping in the local town of Ambleside and then cooking culinary, camping delights as only 12-18 year olds can!
Some leaders also undertook training and assessments. To the point that we had a Network team building on their hills experience as well as improving their overall skillsets and 3 leaders also gaining hillwalking permits following rigorous skills tests under the watchful eyes of some of the county hills assessors we had along for the ride.
To close off the amazing week away we gave out badges to mark the event, thanked all the leaders for their support and hard work, then everyone indulged in either Pizza or fish and chips from the local town! All before hitting the road for the return journey home the next morning!
A massive thank you goes out to all the leaders that made getting back to Hillcraft possible again this Easter, without the party leaders, base camp staff, minibus drivers and all the other leaders the event just wouldn’t be possible.
Keep your eyes peeled as shortly we will be releasing info on our October Hillcraft event, taking place in Dartmoor!
