With the national lockdown entering its fourth week, Del Jarvis the Explorer Leader at Kipling achieved a first for Gravesham when he invested three new Explorer Scouts during one of the units now regular online meetings on Monday.
Each Explorer had been provided with a unit scarf and badges in advance and then with the help of a parent, Del conducted the first distance investiture for Gravesham Explorer Scouts. The Kipling Explorers invested were Amy Danbury, Isobel Hatton, and Ryan Lane. As you can see from the photos it was just like any other investiture, except this one, was on screen.
Obviously, this is not an ideal way to conduct this important Scout ceremony, but the Explorers are rapidly learning that in the current extraordinary times Scouting must adapt and continue to bring young people together. It is a massive learning curve for the leaders, but for the Explorers themselves this is the shape of the world they will increasingly live in.
