Lead Volunteer Update - July 2024

Lead Volunteer Update - July 2024

Dear all

As we head towards the summer holidays, a few updates...

All sections have been busy over the last few weeks, with Beavers on Water, Cub five a side football and Scouts and Explorers at the JP Bond camping and cooking competition..

As Scouts move towards transformation and the launch of the new membership system, I am pleased to announce that David Norris and Hannah Booth have agreed to take on two of the new key roles, heading Programme and 14-24.  We are also seeking applicants to join the District Board of Trustees.  You may also be approached about updating Compass before we move to the new system.

Safety of course remains a priority; remember you need a documented risk assessment for all activities.  POR has been updated with revised rules on activities, ratios and leader-in charge.  HQ have changed how they send reminders about safety and safeguarding ongoing training - these will now come at the beginning of the month rather than on 90 / 60 / 30 day  intervals.  Please don't ignore them as I now have very little scope for not suspending anyone with overdue mandatory training.

It has been great to see so many people out at Hopehill, and we are slowly making progress on the toilet block and hopefully accelerating progress on the climbing tower.  The new tomahawk range is proving popular.  Please ensure that all use of Hopehill is booked, even if there is no charge for it, using the booking form here.  This includes using the car park to drop off for a hike, an evening playing in the woods or on the field or an overnight camp.  And whilst you are out there, do visit the tuck shop which now has Hopehill lanyards, pens, pencils and notebooks as well as badges, woggles, teddies and of course sweets and drinks.

I hope you all have a great summer holiday; if you are camping that the sun shines on you and you have submitted your Nights Away form in good time!  If you are still looking for something to do, bookings are open for the YouShape Weekender (for Scouts & Explorers) and Autumn Hillcraft (Scouts year 8 and older, Explorers and Adults).

Cheers
