Moving to a Team-Based Approach in Scouting!
In January we talked about some of the forthcoming changes in Scouting, and some of them are now about to happen.
We're transforming volunteering in Scouting in Gravesham by implementing a team-based structure. This shift will allow our volunteers to leverage their strengths and passions more effectively, creating a more impactful and rewarding experience for everyone involved.
What is the Team-Based Structure?
At the District level, the new structure will move away from the traditional single ADC role and establish dedicated teams focused on specific areas. This allows for more people to be involved and grow their expertise, helping make volunteering easier and more fun for all.
Here's a glimpse into the newly formed teams:
Programme Team: Running events, supporting activities (including the Duke of Edinburgh's Award) and supporting programme in sections
14-24 Team:Â Leads Explorers, Network and support for all Young Leaders.
Volunteering Development Team (We're still seeking volunteers!):Â Focuses on attracting, onboarding, and supporting volunteers.
Support Team (We're still seeking volunteers!):Â Provides administrative and operational support to the District, including Hopehill
District Board of Trustees (We're still seeking volunteers!):Â Offers strategic guidance and governance to the district.
Benefits of the Team-Based Approach:
Deeper Expertise:Â Teams allow volunteers to specialise in areas they're passionate about, fostering a deeper understanding and improved delivery.
Shared Workload:Â By distributing tasks among a team, the burden is lessened for individual volunteers, creating a more sustainable and balanced experience.
Collaboration and Innovation:Â Teams foster a collaborative environment where volunteers can share ideas and learn from each other, leading to innovative program development.
Volunteer Growth:Â The team structure provides opportunities for volunteers to develop their leadership, teamwork, and communication skills.
We're confident that this new structure will empower our volunteers and allow us to better serve our groups and young people in Gravesham.
Introducing the first New Team Leaders!
We're thrilled to announce the first two new recruits to our new team structure:
Programme Team Leader – David Norris: This team will organise and support the running of all District events (all ages) and activities as well as awards like the Duke of Edinburgh's Award and will support sections within the 4-14 age range across the District. Dave will also continue his role of Group Lead Volunteer for 1st Northfleet Scout Group.
14-24 Team Leader – Hannah Booth: Hannah will lead a team focused on Explorers, Network (both delivered at the District Level), and young leader support across the District.
In due course, both Dave and Hannah, will reach out to the District with details of how these new teams will work moving forward and to recruit for a number of roles to support them.
More Opportunities to Get Involved!
We're still seeking volunteers to join our District Team, particularly for the Team Leaders for the Volunteer Development Team and Support Team, and members for the District Board of Trustees. Also did any of the teams above sound interesting and you would like to join one of them? Reach out to the Team Lead or Fraser to find out how you can get involved.

A Heartfelt Thank You!
I want to extend a special thank you to Dave and Hannah for stepping up, and to some of our long-serving volunteers who are changing role as part of this – especially Marion Weston, Darren Stanford, Dave Moesli, and Lucy Stanford. Their dedication is invaluable, and we know they'll continue to contribute their talents and experience to Scouting in Gravesham.
