Following the changes to St Georges Day Parade last year and the feedback received, we have reviewed the event for this year and made some adjustments to the day.
As in previous years, we will continue to parade from outside the Old Market entrance up to Community Square. This year, prior to the event we will issue a ‘line up plan’ for assembling to avoid confusion, and also aim to identify numbers of young people needed to be flag bearers in advance to help things run smoothly on the day.
We will be meeting at 1:10pm at the start point, and the Celebration will be starting at 1:30 pm. There will be a saluting base on the way to the square.
There will then be a multi-faith celebration event at Community Square, led by Jack Reeves, District Youth Lead, with the support of several others as required. This will include presentation of Top Awards (if there are any to be presented at that time) and renewal of the Promise.
Following the celebration event we will be running a whole District (all section) activity rather than breaking down into our sections like last year. The activity will be a Monopoly style event, starting from the Community Square and lasting for 90 minutes.
You can enter as many teams as you want from your Group with a recommended maximum of 8 young people in a team. Depending upon your numbers your young people can take part with their section or with teams across sections as you wish. You can also join with another group if you want to. Teams will need suitable adults to support each team based upon ratios/needs; the District Team will act as the “Leader in charge” for ratio purposes.
The activity is OPTIONAL and we will ask those taking part to register in advance (details to follow).
As always, full uniform is a must for the event but please do remember that safety is an overriding priority so consider the weather on the day for wearing rain coats or sun protection etc..
If you would like to volunteer to help with the celebration or the activity, or you have any questions, please get in touch with Dave Norris, Fraser Patrick or Jack Reeves.
