Hi All,
On Friday we had our District AGM at Hopehill which was extremely well supported with lots of awards and presentations. Congratulations to everyone who received an award, far too many to mention individually, so at the risk of missing someone out, a massive “Well Done” to all of you. Thank you to the SAS team, once again, who laid on a superb buffet (including Quiche) as they always do.
For those of you who were unable to attend, I thought I would let you know, after five years, my post as District Commissioner is due for review at the end of December. It is my intention to stand down and pass the reins over to someone else. I have given a great deal of thought to this and, In truth, a day hasn’t passed when I haven’t thought about it. If there was a dilemma, argument or an awkward situation causing me to leave, it would be a very much easier thing to do, but there isn’t, far from it.
This is not a decision I have taken lightly, but with the continued pressures of work and family life I feel I am struggling to fulfil the role as I would wish to do.
Gravesham is, without question, one of the best Districts within the County and, in my opinion, the UK. It has been an absolute privilege to represent it as District Commissioner and has made a lasting impression on me, having made so many friends over the course of my years in a District Role and giving me fantastic memories that will stay with me forever.
In the meantime, and until a replacement is appointed by the County Commissioner, it is business as usual, so if you do need anything at all, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Thank you all for your help and support over the last five years and I have no doubt I’ll be seeing many of you in the not-too-distant future!!
Yours in Scouting,
Henson Appleby
District Commissioner
