District Youth Commissioner Blog - 21st September 2023
On Monday 18th September, approximately 60 explorers from all 4 units participated in a Scavenger Hunt challenge at Hopehill Scout campsite. This is the first time we have run this meeting for a little while and it was a great activity to get us underway for our first district meeting after the summer break.
Explorers were divided into teams of up to 4 people and had 45 minutes to complete the first part of the challenge. This included some easy questions such as visiting the chapel to find the birth date of a past scouting member and finding the free-phone number for the gas pipeline, as well as some harder questions such as measuring the length of the inner car park using nothing but the resources they were given!
The key challenge here was the time pressure. Explorers had to be back between 7:50 and 8pm otherwise points would have been deducted!
Once the first part was handed back in for marking, the challenge got ever so slightly tougher with the questions now requiring a lot more thinking and some background knowledge. These questions included measuring between specific points in Hopehill’s activity field as well as naming as many of the glades in Five Acre field without having access to the field itself!
All in all, the explorers had an enjoyable evening and were able to learn some facts about Hopehill that aren’t always well known.
A big well done to the top 4 teams who all earnt a prize for their efforts:
4th Place – Harry’s Team and Alif – 119 points
3rd Place – Marsh – 120 points
2nd Place – James – 120.5 points
1st Place – The Tenth Team – 134 points
Thanks go to Dave Moesli for heading to Hopehill whilst I was on holiday to find the answers to some of the questions as well as the great team of District leaders & network members who came out to assist.
