Tomahawks Now Open

Gravesham Scouts Tomahawk Range Now Open

We are pleased and excited to say that Hopehill now has a fully operational Tomahawk throwing range. This is a great new addition to the site and has already been used by Explorers, Scouts and Service Crew. A huge thanks to everyone who has been involved in getting us to this stage, we are very grateful.

We have Small Hawks (Angels) available for Beavers, Frontier Hawks in addition for Cubs and Norse hawks as well for Scouts and above.

As well as being in a position to start offering group sessions we are also going to be running instructors sessions.

Instructor sessions:

Tomahawks is NOT within the scope of the Adventurous Activity Permit Scheme, however under POR & Fact sheet information it is essential that all instructors have a minimum of 7 hours throwing and training experience BEFORE being able to run sessions. Afterwhich they must keep up their knowledge and practice. A range master MUST be over 18, but activity leaders can be a young person who is also trained to assist.  To cover this we are offering 4 Throw and Theory sessions (3 hours) where you will cover everything from risk assessments, safety briefings, equipment maintenance and range control before then getting to put this into practice by doing your remaining 4 hours under supervision running sessions (be that your own group or one of the many, in and out of district, group requests that are coming in).

** POR/factsheet defines all activity leaders as being a competent individual who regularly take part in the activity. Therefore final sign off to run events will be from the District Lead Volunteer to confirm suitability post training.

The dates for sessions are:

  • Saturday 11th May

  • Sunday 19th May

  • Saturday 1st June

  • Sunday 9th June

Leaders only need to select and attend one training date.

All sessions are at Hopehill from 9-12 noon and are limited to 6 people per session. If you are interested then please email tomahawks@hopehill.org.uk where places will be offered on a first come first served basis.

Group sessions:

To book a session for your group please visit www.graveshamscouts.org.uk/activity-enquiry if you have any questions please email tomahawks@hopehill.org.uk.  Please note that we have limited trained activity leaders to run these at present but will do our best to accommodate as many sessions as possible. Post training we hope to have a great team which will make more sessions viable. The cost is the same as Air Rifles and Archery for Gravesham groups at £20 per hour.
